How do you plan on staying healthy this fall? In February, my husband and I decided that it was time to get healthy. Around that time, I was scheduled to start physical therapy to help strengthen my muscles following my back surgery and I felt it was a great time to start losing weight too. I felt guilty that I was writing posts to tell other’s what to do and so I decided to use it as one of my motivators to live a healthy lifestyle despite my chronic health problems. It has been over 30 weeks since I started documenting my weight loss journey. I promise that I didn’t give up on my weight loss journey, I just had to take a break from logging it for a few weeks and I hope to pick that back up this week.

9 Simple Things that I am Doing to Stay Healthy This Fall

Today, I wanted to share with you some ways that I plan on staying healthy this fall. Fall is one of my favorite seasons of the year and I want to be sure that I am able to enjoy it with my family to the best of my ability. Join me this fall in the  Healthy Habit Builder challenge. When school started in August, I found that it was so much harder to get to the gym on a regular basis. Now that it has finally cooled off a little bit in Texas, now is the perfect time to get outside and go walking. I am struggling with hip pain again and it is frustrating but I know that I need to stay moving to keep my joints healthy. Plus, my dog loves to go walking with me too.


I noticed over the weekend that I need to work on stretching. I plan on using my yoga strap to help stretch my quads and piriformis muscle. The piriformis muscle runs along the front of your pelvis down your leg. When it tenses up, it can cause hip pain and even sciatica. My physical therapist showed me the correct way to stretch these muscles using a yoga strap.

Use my Massage Roller

I also need to use my massage roller on my IT band. When it knots up, it tends to aggravate my hip bursitis. It has been a while since I used my massage roller. It helps to gently unknot my IT band.

Eat Healthy Meals

I have lost 38 pounds already and I am nowhere near reaching my weight loss goals. In February, I started focusing on eating healthy meals and logging all of my food into MyFitness Pal. Some days, I struggle with eating enough fruits and vegetables and other days it is so much easier. I need to focus on eating more fruits and vegetables. I realize that it can be expensive to eat healthy meals but it is important to me. I try to buy fresh whenever possible if not I buy frozen.

Get My Flu Shot

My rheumatologist and PCP told me to make sure that I get my flu shot since I have rheumatoid arthritis. It is important that I do everything to stay healthy and prevent the flu. My treatment can be limited if I do get the flu due to the medications that I currently take to manage my rheumatoid arthritis. I need to get it soon so that I can make sure that I don’t get the flu. It is all part of my plan on how to stay healthy this fall.

Take my Supplements

I started taking Fish oil earlier this year and I plan on adding Digestive Probiotics to my regiment. Since I have a compromised immune system, it is important that I make sure that I keep plenty of healthy bacteria in my gut. Drink Plenty of Water

I struggle with drinking water on a daily basis. I just find it very boring and it is hard for me to drink it unless I have just finished exercising. I am going to challenge myself to try and drink more water this fall.


Since school started, I have been on a strict schedule and get up with the rest of the family as they get ready for their day. I have made it a point to take my medications at the same time every night even on the weekends so that I stay consistent and get plenty of sleep each night. It was easier than I thought it would be and it has helped my mental health.

I want to make it a point to get a little bit of sunshine each day, especially, as the days get shorter and it gets dark earlier. Getting a bit of sunshine feels great and it gets you outside for some fresh air too.
